Reflections from a father on the lasting shifts in his son after a customized
Journey of Personal Transformation.
My wife and I sent our son with Lonnie for 10-day Journey of Personal Transformation. When he returned it was apparent that the transformation was immediate and long term.
Before embarking on his journey we had a severance / farewell ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, just before leaving, our son said:
"If I die out there, you will know I died hating you!"
Luckily he did have a bit of a smirk when he said it. He said this to us, because by leaving on this journey, he was going to be missing out on playing video games. When we met him 10 days later, he came out of the woods smiling and glowing.
A funny thing happened when he returned from his journey, our son could no longer log into his account for his favorite game. This inability to log in forced him to start another account, which partly led to of the end of his preoccupation with video games. Simultaneously he was beginning a new way of engaging with life and his body...
A week after that, our son went on a trip to begin the 10th grade. He stepped into this trip with presence and began approaching all aspects of his life with full engagement. This was also when he started to practicing parkour, going rock climbing, working out, exploring art, 3-D printing and cultivating deep relationships with his friends.
Over the past 3 years, our son has blossomed as a person and he continues to do so. He is now traveling and working in New Zealand with his best friend at the age of 18.
Lonnie prepared a container for our family, our son and for the journey our son embarked upon. Within this container our son was able to rediscover his creativity and will power. Now he is exploring life with curiosity and awe!
